Rob Ball has been making photographs at the coast for fifteen years and has now documented over 100 resorts worldwide. His work examines the rhythms of the seaside, and the changes that arise from seasonal and generational change. Focusing on the ways that fractured communities and infrastructure undergo repair and renewal, Ball’s images demonstrate that, despite lack of investment, the commercial coastline endures. His work of the built environment at the coast represents an important and often overlooked part of our culture. He has produced five photobooks bringing together these ideas which examine the commercial coastline on both sides of the Atlantic, from Margate to Coney Island.
